America’s favorite pastime has always been a social and cultural force. Stitching together bat-and-ball games brought to America by immigrants created the foundation of baseball. Soon, Americans traveling abroad and visitors returning home spread their love of the game world wide, particularly to Central America and Asia. Each new fan expanded the culture and identity of the game.
The Sheboygan County Museum is pleased to host ¡Pleibol! In the Barrios and the Big Leagues / En los barrios y las grandes ligas, a Smithsonian Institution Traveling Exhibition. From youth and community teams to the Major League, the bilingual exhibition reveals how generations of Latinas/os helped make baseball the game it is today. Baseball is a game of dreams, community, and shared experience. Baseball in Sheboygan County is no different, with stories of adversity, triumph, famous players, and love of the game.
These inspirational stories reflect larger themes that connect us all, on and off the diamond. Step up to the plate and catch rich baseball history at the Museum.
